You can never know!

You can have 50 years of experience in the gem business and think that you have seen it all, only to be surprised from time to time.

This year we were not able to travel around the world to our gem sources as much as we had wished.  However, to compensate, we decided to travel just before the new year and visit our friends in Tanzania who have been just like a family to us for the last 40 and more years!

Some call me “Daddy” or “Uncle Menahem” and Kobi they call brother.

They had all told us that there were not many goods in the market, mining had been slow etc. But they missed us and wanted to meet up.

Ok. So, we travelled with low expectations from the point of view of seeing goods.

The very day that we landed, we were told that a nice top quality tanzanite parcel had just been mined and was waiting for us in Merelani.

We, of course, travelled the rough and bumpy road to examine the lot and were amazed by its quality. I sat down with the cutting team to pre-shape and cut some of the large pieces ofrough. Results were great! 5-100 cts top block D gems!

So that was a good start.

And then the next day we sat in our partner’s friend’s office and two young fellows came to us with beautiful colors of rough sapphire from the Umba river.

We thought that this must be the end of the surprises, but that afternoon we purchased a parcel of amazing quality rough tsavorite…

And we thought we were just coming for a “family” visit!

The Tanzanite was shipped to us after being cut in Merelani.

That was certainly one of the most fruitful purchasing trips that we have had in the last few years!

Last week we received the parcels, when I immediately began to pre-shape the tsavorites, beautiful 1-5 carats of gems…long time no see!

So, if you feel like seeing and enjoying our new gems don’t hesitate! This is the time! Prices are very attractive!

2022 has just left us and we are welcoming with open arms 2023.

We wish all you friends and colleagues happy new year, try to do at least one thing out of the ordinary, help one in need, think out of the box and go to the extreme.

We wish you all health, happiness and love

See you when we see you,

Menahem Sevdermish
